German baritone Günter Papendell hails from Krefeld and since the 2007/08 season has been with the Komische Oper Berlin.

He has had numerous national and international engagements as a concert singer with such distinguished artists as Sir Simon Rattle, Helmut Deutsch and Stefan Vladar and with ensembles such as the Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Kölner Rundfunk, and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been a guest singer at diverse German opera houses including the Aalto-Theater in Essen, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Staatstheater of Nuremberg and Mainz, the Nationaltheater of Weimar and Mannheim, the Staatsoper and Gärtnerplatztheater of Munich and the theatres in Dortmund, Bonn, Bremen and Gelsenkirchen.


His repertoire, along with a large collection of lieder evenings and oratorio works, includes parts such as Odysseus by Monteverdi, Don Giovanni, Figaro (Mozart and Rossini), Germont, Marquis Posa, Escamillo, Marcello, Pollux (Rameau), Gianni Schicchi, Förster in Das schlaue Füchslein, Demetrius, Mary (Zimmermann) and since the 2016/16 season Yevgeniy Onegin.
